I've read that since Trump's tariffs are in effect, shipments from China have ceased. Much of their crap, I mean stuff, is stuck at many of our ports and most of the Chinese factories have shut down. Maybe it's not such a bad thing as we all are expected to fret about. Maybe, just maybe, if we really do wait it out and companies come back to America, erect factories and start manufacturing things again, it might turn out to be a very good thing.
Six months ago I bought my husband a pair of Dockers slippers for him to wear inside the house. I paid $10 for them but in retrospect, I would have gladly paid $25 for them if I thought they would last longer than six months!! Look at both the front and back of these Made In China slippers. The front wore down but the bottoms completely caved in. There are actual holes in the bottom of these slippers and they were only worn indoors! And China makes ALL our outdoor shoes. What is wrong with us?

Bless your heart and thanks for the slipper review. Chinese factories are alive and well. My son actually does architecture inspections and was there last week!!! Long flights!!! China serves the world not just USA, so they are doing pretty ok at holding for now. Did trump say they all closed? He would make that up. What a goof
ReplyDeleteI think I would believe an AI report, rather than you and your son. Bless his heart. Chinese factories are closing:
DeleteYes, numerous Chinese factories have been closing, primarily due to a combination of factors including US tariffs, reduced orders, and environmental regulations. US tariffs, particularly on goods shipped to the US, have led to a decline in orders for Chinese factories, forcing some to shut down or seek new markets. Additionally, environmental regulations and factory audits have resulted in the closure of many factories.
Here's a more detailed look at the reasons behind factory closures:
1. US Tariffs and Reduced Orders:
US tariffs have made goods more expensive for American consumers, leading to a decrease in demand and a fall in orders for Chinese factories.
Some garment factories supplying Shein, a popular online retailer, have shut down due to the impact of tariffs and the end of the "de minimis" exemption.
The end of the "de minimis" exemption means all shipments to the US now face import taxes, regardless of size.
2. Environmental Regulations and Audits:
Environmental regulations and factory audits have led to the closure of many factories in China.
These closures are part of a broader effort by the Chinese government to address environmental concerns.
3. Other Factors:
Chinese New Year Shutdowns:
.
Factories traditionally close for the Chinese New Year holiday, which can disrupt production and supply chains.
Supply Chain Disruptions:
.
COVID-19 lockdowns in Shanghai and other areas have also disrupted supply chains and forced some factories to halt operations.
Geopolitical Uncertainty:
.
Geopolitical uncertainty and concerns about potential changes in trade policy have also led to hesitation and a wait-and-see approach from buyers, impacting orders for Chinese factories.
Have you heard of “bkundstone” brand. Made in Australia and are ah-maz-ing boots and shoes. We have access to them here in the north east and I’ve bought some in NYC. check them out
ReplyDeleteJenna
Hi Jenna. Thanks for the info. I'll check them out. I'm sure there are other shoe manufacturers but many of us may not of heard of them. That info will probably be coming more to light now that China will be manufacturing less shoes. People will be looking for alternatives. Thanks again for your comment.
DeleteOh and yes, I wasn't aware of the German company, Birkenstock. Where I'm from, only stuck up liberals wear these shoes. Starting at $150-$160 you can order a pair of sneakers from this company. Here's one of the links:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.birkenstock.com/us/women/shoes/sneakers/
Just remember, Germany does not sell much American items. You will NEVER see an American car on any German streets. Yet, here in America you will see oodles of VWs, BMWs and Mercedes Benz almost everywhere. This is because of the unfair trade tariffs Germany as well as China has heaped upon the US. If you want to go out and support a company such as this, you go right ahead. And thanks for letting me know about this company. Nice to know YOU can spend hundreds on a pair of shoes. You rock!
I read a comment the other day about Temu and how the tariffs have made their prices skyrocket. I’ve never used Temu and never will as I would rather support the second hand market where I live.
ReplyDeleteHi Belinda. I've never used Temu either. Their prices used to be very low but have now added in the tariffs and at 145%, that's a big increase. I'm seeking out more local suppliers here in America instead. Thanks for your comment.
DeleteI love SAS, made in Texas. They are expensive, durable, and very comfortable. My sandals cost upward of $150, and well worth every cent.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the tip. That's 3 other companies so far, American located, that have been making shoes etc all along.
DeleteNo, not all Chinese factories are closing, but there are disruptions and closures happening, particularly due to environmental crackdowns and trade tensions, especially with the United States. While environmental regulations are forcing some factories to shut down due to pollution, others are experiencing slowdowns and closures due to reduced orders and market shifts caused by trade wars.
ReplyDeleteTrade tensions? That's double speak for 'trade tariffs'. Reduced orders? That's due to trade tariffs also. If China has more customers than what it has in the US, then why are the factories closing down? Why aren't they still humming along catering to other markets? It's because America is their largest market, period. China would rather go broke and starve its own people than cater to Trump and try to work out a trade deal. Only time will tell. In the interim, more and more American companies are taking on the challenge.
DeleteThat is crazy that they were only worn for 6 months and ended up like that.
ReplyDeleteI check this website when I'm looking for items made in America.
https://www.thebuyamericanmovement.com/
I would rather pay a little more for items regularly used than buy cheap and have the item fall apart and then have to replace again.
Thanks Lori for the website. I'll be using it from now on. I agree. I'd rather pay more myself for a better made slipper (or anything else for that matter) than for the crap that pours out of China.
DeleteOMG do you not realise that the rest of the world buy from China and are now not buying from the USA. Racheal
ReplyDeleteRachael, so what? Let the rest of the world buy from China. We don't need the rest of the world to buy from us. Just Americans buying American made products should suffice. That's the way it used to be. And hopefully will be once again. American made products are usually much better quality than anything else made elsewhere. Americans can make the finest wine, cheese, clothing, cars, etc. that could win any competition.
